We are a non-profit organisation. The local authorities with whom we have concluded agreements cover the first 14 days of boarding costs for an animal found in their area, but from the 15th day onwards the animal's fate rests 100% on our shoulders. In addition to proper food and safe shelter, this also means various veterinary procedures, vaccination, microchipping, spaying and neutering, as well as our staff's professionalism in winning the animals' trust and making them "ready for a home".

In all of this we depend on donations, and thanks to caring people like you we are able to change the lives of a great many animals.

Your support has made Varjupaikade MTÜ the largest organisation dealing with homeless animals in Estonia — since 2007 we have helped over 26,000 animals find a new home. See our statistics.

Donations bring us ever closer to our vision — that every animal has a responsible home: we can spay and neuter shelter animals, thus preventing unwanted litters, and microchip animals going to new homes so that they always find their way back to their owner.

We are listed in the register of non-profit organisations and foundations eligible for income tax relief, which means that a donor can deduct the amount donated to Varjupaikade MTÜ from their annual taxable income. We have joined the good practice code for fundraising

Clinic Fund

Support the shelter animals’ clinic fund and help save lives!

Every day, abandoned dogs and cats in poor condition come into our care, needing special attention, treatment and veterinary procedures. The clinic bills for such animals run into thousands of euros, and we very much hope that you can help!

There are two ways to support:

  1. Make a one-off or recurring donation in the clinic fund donation box, and we will share the sum among all the animals in need.
  2. Choose the animal you wish to support from those in need and donate directly through the animal’s profile.

Success story – dog Bertha’s new beginning

Bertha the dog is one of the many who, thanks to donors’ help, have been given a new chance to live a full life!

Bertha came into our care from a home where she was neglected. She was in an extremely poor state – the poor dog suffered from an extensive inflammatory skin allergy, and a huge bladder stone was found in her bladder, which made urinating truly agonising for her. The cost of her treatment and operation came to over €1,000.

We are delighted to report that Bertha’s operation was a success and her treatment has produced wonderful results. The inflammation and itching are subsiding too, and Bertha now enjoys life to the full.

Other ways to help

Donation by will

With a will, you can support shelter animals even after your lifetime by leaving part of your estate or a specific sum to Varjupaikade MTÜ. In this way you help ensure that homeless animals receive care and love in the future too. Every donation, whether large or small, is invaluable help to us.

Under Estonian law, a legal person, such as a non-profit organisation, can also be named as an heir or legatee. We ask that you name us precisely in your will:

How to draw up a will? A will can be made in two ways:

  • A notarial will is drawn up before a notary, who establishes your wishes and formulates them in a legally correct manner. The will is entered in the succession register and is valid indefinitely. This is the most reliable method.
  • A domestic will is either written entirely in your own hand (holographic) or signed in the simultaneous presence of at least two witnesses with legal capacity. Be sure to note the date and year. A domestic will is valid for only 6 months from the time it is made; if you are still alive after six months have passed, it becomes invalid.

We recommend contacting a notary to draw up your will, who will help put your wishes down in a legally correct manner. You can find a notary on the Chamber of Notaries website.
